The Magical Place
"The Magical Place" is the eleventh episode of the first season of the American television series ''Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'', based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), revolving around the character of Phil Coulson and his team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they attempt to rescue him from Centipede. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The episode was written by Paul Zbyszewski and Brent Fletcher, and directed by Kevin Hooks.
Clark Gregg reprises his role as Coulson from the film series, and is joined by series regulars Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge.
"The Magical Place" originally aired on ABC on January 7, 2014, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 6.63 million viewers.
==Plot==
Victoria Hand leads S.H.I.E.L.D.'s efforts to rescue Coulson while Centipede tortures him to learn the secret of his resurrection. Believing Skye to be untrustworthy, and after seeking May's input, Hand has Skye removed from the Bus. Skye sets out on her own investigation which leads the team to Coulson's location. After the Clairvoyant kills Po, Raina takes over Coulson's interrogation. She uses a scanning device to compel him to remember aspects of his being brought back to life. Coulson experiences flashbacks and after his rescue he confronts Streiten, who tells Coulson he had been dead days, and was resurrected at the orders of Director Fury. Streiten reveals that after his revival, Coulson had lost the will to live, and that the doctors manipulated Coulson's brain to give him false memories in order for him to continue his work. It is later revealed that Peterson is alive, albeit badly burned, missing the lower half of his right leg, with an explosive surveillance eye implanted in him by someone working for the Clairvoyant.
